| Lýsing | NIOSH industrial hygienists Dave Sylvain (center) and Steve Ahrenholz (right) get a roustabout (Mr. Carr - left) aboard the Development Driller II (DD II) set up with air sampling equipment to collect polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons in worker’s breathing zones during a work shift. This picture was taken during the NIOSH Health Hazard Evaluation characterizing worker exposures as a part of the NIOSH response to the BP Gulf oil spill. The DD II was one of two deepwater drilling rigs positioned at the source of the Gulf oil release drilling one of the two 16 to 18,000 foot deep relief wells that would be used to intercept and seal the damaged Deepwater Horizon oil well below the ocean floor. The industrial hygiene monitoring was to assess worker breathing zone exposures at the source of the oil spill. |
